Speech by the Director

The University of Kufa is an extension of a great cultural legacy full of science and literature. This great historical importance of our university has made everyone, including students, professors, and employees, face a great responsibility to achieve more giving so that our university is among the ranks of international universities. Therefore, our university was a pioneer in all fields, the most important of which is scientific research, which is an attempt to discover knowledge, explore, develop, examine, and achieve it accurately, and then present it in an integrated manner so that human society can follow the path of scientific civilization and society takes its distinguished place with progress and prosperity in the arena of knowledgeable society. Since postgraduate studies are the main and important focus that supports the scientific research movement, our university has given the utmost importance to postgraduate studies so that its programs and curricula are at high levels to prepare advanced academic cadres to lead the scientific research movement.

The Department of Postgraduate Studies is responsible for organizing postgraduate studies and directing it in the right direction so that the research requested by it is applied research that serves the community and meets the market needs. It has been agreed with many international universities on mechanisms for scientific and cultural cooperation through memorandums of understanding through which graduate students and their supervisors are sent to those universities to benefit from the best library and laboratory services they provide.

The Department of Graduate Studies at the University of Kufa is committed to the necessity of applying quality standards and academic accreditation to all colleges and departments of the university, and its policy aims to achieve the goals and ambitions of the university by providing the community with efficient, constructive, and sincere academic resources from graduate students (higher diploma, master’s, and doctorate) in all specializations and fields, as well as ensuring the quality of educational outcomes. Higher education through qualifying the student’s scientific, practical and research capabilities and providing the necessary services to postgraduate students in the belief that they will be the bearers of the flag of science in the future. We hope to achieve everyone’s satisfaction to advance graduate studies in a way that is consistent with the vision, mission and goals of the university.

Strategies

1. Strategy to advance scientific research at the level of creativity and production: The strategy of the College of Graduate Studies is based on advancing scientific research at the level of production by urging graduate students to write solid scientific research during the preparatory year and the research year, especially since the instructions indicate the necessity of the student publishing some Research before discussion.

As for advancing scientific research through creativity, it consists of researching and guiding graduate students to publish their research in good international scientific journals with a high impact factor to contribute to raising the rates of our university’s research, which qualifies it to enter the international rankings of universities.

2. The strategy of the educational process. The strategy of the Graduate Studies Department in its field is based on qualitative expansion in the development of graduate studies programs and striving to raise the quality of current graduate studies programs by monitoring and removing obstacles to advancement and providing the appropriate scientific atmosphere for graduate students that enhances their creative side. An integrated electronic system was also created to manage graduate students electronically from application to graduation.

3. Community service strategy: The strategy of the Graduate Studies Department in the field of community service is based on openness to society and its institutions and responding to its requirements through:

A – Opening postgraduate programs (higher diploma, master’s, doctorate) to meet the needs of society and fill its shortage.

B – Linking the outputs of graduate studies, including research, dissertations, and dissertations, to the needs of the market and the requirements of society, so that graduate studies are not far from society, but rather interact with it, serve it, and meet its growing needs and the desires of the private sector.

4. Human resources strategy and efficient university management: Our human resources strategy is based on preparing graduate students and giving them good skills that qualify them to be good administrative cadres capable of managing state facilities and society.

5. Financial resources strategy: The strategy of the College of Graduate Studies is related to managing and increasing financial resources as follows:

A – Increasing the financial resources obtained for the university and the state by working to increase the innovations of postgraduate programs and increasing private expenses seats in them and in the already existing programs.

B – Providing financial resources for the state by making it possible for graduate students to use equipment and laboratories in other colleges instead of purchasing new equipment and building other laboratories.

7. Follow-up and evaluate the plan: The Council of the College of Graduate Studies follows up and evaluates the strategic plan periodically and every six months to maintain implementation mechanisms and accelerate its completion.

Divisions
The Department of Graduate Studies consists of four divisions:
  1. Graduate student affairs.
  2. Admission and Registration Division.
  3. Graduates Division.
Division of Graduate Student Affairs
Tasks and duties of the division:
  • Issuing university orders to extend the study of postgraduate students, which are approved by the University Council.
  • Issuing university orders to cancel admission and upgrade enrollment for postgraduate students, which are approved by the University Council.
  • Circulating the Ministry’s letters on postgraduate studies, organizing the answers, and referring them to the Ministry
  • Promoting mission facilitation treatment for postgraduate students and the research scholarship program
  • Referring all ministerial instructions related to postgraduate studies to the university colleges to act accordingly
  • Follow up on the letters for returning students whose registrations have been patched to postgraduate studies.
  • An electronic follow-up system for graduate students, including electronic archiving of graduate students’ files.
  • Following up and marginalizing college council minutes related to postgraduate studies
  • Field follow-up for postgraduate students
  • Electronic archiving system
  • A system of unifying specializations for university teachers
  • Postgraduate student discussions system
  • Supervising monthly follow-up forms for postgraduate students
  • A system of supervision and monitoring of the number of discussions for each teacher.
  • Preparing monthly reports on discussions.
Admissions & Registration Division
Tasks and duties of the division:
  • Managing the work of the electronic admission system for accepting students into postgraduate studies in our university’s colleges and training college employees on this system.
  • Issuing university orders regarding the admission of postgraduate students.
  • Accepting and following up on foreign students.
  • Standardizing and organizing the admission plan for postgraduate studies for each academic year and sending it to the Ministry for approval.
  • Referring studies related to the development of new graduate programs to the University Council and then submitting them to the Ministry after obtaining approval by the esteemed University Council.
  • Statistics on accepted students and by college.
  • Completing the application and acceptance procedures to apply for a higher diploma in strategic planning.
  • Preparing reports and studies for the department.
  • Working on the study leave system, granting no-objections, and issuing university orders for study leave for university employees.
  • Communicating with state departments about the validity of the issuance of applicant forms on the channel for the families of martyrs, martyrs of terrorism, and political prisoners.
  • Follow up on the system of students studying outside the university.
  • Working on the scientific experience system for postgraduate students.
Graduates Division

Tasks and duties of the division:

  • Issuing university orders to graduates who hold doctoral, master’s, and higher diploma degrees at the university.
  • Responding to departments, universities and departments regarding the validity of issuing university orders to graduates and making barcodes.
  • Statistics on graduates by colleges, departments, and specializations and providing them to the Statistics Department
  • Creating an electronic database for graduate students since 2003 and updating it periodically.
  • Proofreading theses and dissertations for postgraduate students during the certificate granting process.
