The Faculty of Nursing-University of Kufa held a workshop on vitamin D deficiency.
It included a lecture on vitamin D’s role in building and maintaining bones. Without vitamin D, the body cannot absorb calcium, the main component of bones; it regulates many other functions in the body’s cells and supports its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, neurological, immune, muscular, and brain cell activity.
It concluded that many foods do not contain vitamin D and can obtained from fortified milk, fortified breakfast cereals, and fatty fish such as salmon and sardines.
